Some Fun Information Regarding Halloween History
Halloween’s not just for kids who want to get a sugar rush. Adults can have fun during Halloween too, dressing up as varies ghouls and characters and going out to parties. In fact, the French were big on it – they had things called masquerade parties where people needed to dress up to attend.
The masquerade itself first began because the French wanted to go have fun with while combining it with anonymity. This was due to the fact that executions were quite common.
What was once a pagan worship ritual became the holiday we now know as Halloween. The pagans never actually had any costumes – that was an addition from its adopters. There were no sexy nurses or anything. It was a religious tradition, one that some pagans still practice to this day.
For many, Halloween is the perfect time to dress up in things that you shouldn’t be able to pull off any other day of the year. It’s about looking good in a way that is distinctly unique. It’s more than about the scares and the ghouls – it’s about the dresses and the suits that look oh so good.
There are a number of staple costumes, such as the witch, the werewolf or other iconic Halloween characters. The foppish British vampire is slowly becoming a staple as well.
It’s fairly easy to spice up Halloween. A costume with a story or some background can make what already promises to be an interesting holiday for most people far more intriguing and even exciting. The one downside to a costume that is too “outside the box” is that some people may need an explanation as to what you are supposed to be, but if you don’t mind giving the occasional explanation, don’t let that stop you!
Inspiration for costumes can come from anywhere and from any time period. Futuristic costumes can also be found, as well as costumes inspired by cartoons such as the Simpsons or Futurama.
Whatever the inspiration, women tend to pour more effort into their costumes than men, due in large part to the fact that men can generally get away with bad costumes easier than women can.
