biography shakira music

What type of singer or someone related to music would be a good person to write two page biography about?

We’re doing this project: magazines, and we’re supposedly writing articles.

We have to write a solid two page biography about someone related to the subject we’re doing, and write an article about just something about the subject.

My group was considering “Shakira,” as my group is filled with Spanish people. However, I’m reluctant. But they said they’re willing to do anything. So I’m trying to think of some people…

And what could I write an article about? Top 100 songs? Worst singers?
Oh- and I’m not saying it’s a totally idea, but I was also thinking about new people- like the people who sing now..

I would definitely go with Shakira. She is a very interesting person. And she is current, by the way; she has several hits on the radio right now.

Shakira is AMAZING.

Fun facts about Shakira:

She is way more than a hip-shaker. She has written and recorded over 80 terrific songs in several genres.

On tour, she doesn’t use backup dancers – she entertains ALL BY HERSELF (and her awesome band.) That’s really rare nowadays.

She wrote her first song at age 8, and signed her first recording contract when she was 13 (with Sony, who has maintained her contract up to present day.)

Shakira personally founded the Pies Descalzos foundation, which builds needed schools in Colombia. http://fundacionpiesdescalzos.com/

She writes or co-writes all of her own material.

She maintains an incredible amount of creative control over her music – from writing to post-production, and even co-directing her own videos.

Her IQ is 140.

She speaks 5 languages.

“Fijacion Oral” was the biggest Spanish language album debut in history.

“La Tortura” was the first ever Spanish-language music video to enter regular rotation on MTV

She is the first ever artist to have the #1 Top 40 Mainstream song and #1 Latin song in the same week (La Tortura)

She is currently in the Guinness Book of World Records for most weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks chart for “La Tortura”

Shakira is the most searched artist in the world according to yahoo.com, 2006

“Hips Don’t Lie” is the most played pop song in radio history.

Shakira is the only artist ever to debut in the top 5 albums in English and Spanish in the same calendar year.

The “Oral Fixation Tour” is one of the best-selling concerts of the year. It has sold out at almost every location worldwide.

Shakira’s Oral Fixation national concert tour was the “most requested event” during the third quarter of 2006 according to Ticketmaster.

December 6 was declared Shakira Day in Miami. Shakira was honored for making history and becoming the first artist to perform in Miami American Airlines Arena for 5 times during one tour.

Shakira is the highest selling Colombian artist of all time and the only artist from that country to have had a #1 single in the USA.

Check out her official message board http://forums1.epicrecords.com/Artists/Shakira/ – it’s really something how much her fans love her. It’s really rare for an artist to have that kind of loyalty these days.

Shakira's crossover success has been predicted for years by those in the know. She landed her first record deal when she was a mere thirteen years old, recorded her second album at fifteen, and starred in a popular soap opera in her native Colombia. She was only nineteen when her third album, Pies descalzos (Barefoot), made her the bestselling female rock star in Latin America. Though her fourth...

Words & Music [VHS] Words & Music [VHS]

The plot is a hokey whitewash of the careers of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, with characters talking in stilted phrases ("Gee, Larry, that's marvelous, really and truly") and complexities reduced to ground zero. But Rodgers and Hart comprised one of the greatest song-writing teams of the 20th century, and Words and Music (1948) is an excuse for a gang of Hollywood's top performers to have the...

James Stewart, at his warmest and most avuncular, plays the bandleader who rocketed to fame during the swing era. The Glenn Miller Story may be a whitewashed version of Miller's life, but it certainly is a pleasant example of the feel-good Hollywood biopic, with the usual conventions: early struggles, loyal wife (June Allyson at her chirpiest), personal sacrifice--Miller joins the Army when war br...

To Hell and Back To Hell and Back
$7.55

Audie Murphy, the most decorated American soldier in World War II, enjoyed a Hollywood acting career after the fight. In this 1955 autobiographical film, however, he plays himself re-creating his own actions and movements in key battles. As strange as this project might have seemed to him at the time, the results are pretty impressive. The film, despite a flat script, is really a pretty good war d...

Blue Blood Blue Blood

As a Harvard graduate and regular writer for the New Yorker, Edward Conlon is a little different from most of his fellow New York City cops. And the stories he tells in his compelling memoir Blue Blood are miles away from the commonly told Hollywood-style police tales that are always action packed but rarely tethered to reality. While there is action here, there's also political hassle, the rich a...
Black Metropolis: A Study of Negro Life in a Northern City Black Metropolis: A Study of Negro Life in a Northern City

"The facts of urban life presented here are in their starkest form," Richard Wright wrote in the original foreword to this penetrating study of Chicago's South Side, first published in 1945. "To have them presented otherwise would have been to negate the humanity of the American Negro." Nearly 50 years later, sociologist William Julius Wilson wrote that Black Metropolis "allows us to consider the ...
