Any time my friends and I get into a discussion of the best actors currently working today, one of the more controversial answers that always seems to come up is Nicholas Cage. I can’t pinpoint exactly why I love Nicholas Cage movies so much; I don’t think he’s the most versatile actor, and the films are rarely spectacular. But that does not stop him from being one of my favorites.
Here are some the greatest Nicholas Cage movies from the past two decades.
The Rock is probably my favorite film on this list, for its pure enjoyment factor. Cage was perfect for this movie, as the nerdy and preoccupied Dr. Stanley Goodspeed. This is probably my favorite movie to quote with friends.
No list of Nicholas Cage films would be complete without mentioning Adaptation. In Charlie Kaufman written script, Cage actually plays a pair of twins, one of which is humorously named Charlie Kaufman. This is a bizarre, yet incredibly enjoyable film.
A movie that came out earlier this year (2010) that was incredibly enjoyable was Kickass. Nicholas Cage played a superhero in this film, but one thing I loved about this marketing campaign was that it never credited Cage as being the star of the film.
Another great film of his that happened to be released in the 1990s was Face Off. This movie stars Cage and John Travolta in an incredibly original plotline, which I will not give away, but is definitely worth seeing if you like action films.
On the softer side of things, one film of his that I really enjoyed was It Could Happen To You. I normally am not a fan of romantic dramas, but this film felt real and was a feel good movie. This one definitely has my seal of approval.
These are just some of the better films that Nicholas Cage has released in recent memory.
